Which is the way, you hope, your public leaders, make and determine, their decisions, plans, and actions - based on someone's gut feelings/ opinions/ beliefs, or in a scientific matter, based on the DATA? Does it make any sense, to make predictions, based on feelings, etc, or, on the trends, indicated, by this data? Whether, one supports, or opposes, the present American leadership, and/ or, believes in the statements made, by President Donald Trump, shouldn't public health decisions, during a pandemic, which has already, infected, approximately 1.5 million Americans, and taken nearly 100, 000 lives, be based on science and the actual numbers, especially, in terms of when, it's safe to reopen the American economy, the best way to do so, and how to evaluate, the eventual plan/ process? With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why, the health and well - being, of the greater - good, become the highest priority.
1. Delve deeply; data; discover; developing; driven; decisions: Decisions must consistently be based on what, the data, indicates, and tweaked, when/ if, necessary, which the emphasis on public health, and the greater good! Unless/ until. these individuals, discover, the best way, to proceed, and do so, based on smart health policy, rather than any personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self - interest, it imperils, us, especially, those, physically weakest/ diminished, etc! Our leaders must be driven, based on serving and representing citizens, realizing, money can be lost, and, hopefully, regained,but health, often, doesn't get a second - chance!
2. Attitude; aptitude; attention; articulates: While we need public leaders, with a positive, can - do, attitude, that is far - different, from, proceeding, with, rose- colored glasses, or, unsubstantiated, optimism/ opinions! In addition, one's aptitude, and skill - set, are essential factors, as well as the ability and willingness to pay keen attention, to the options and alternatives, with an open - mind! When President Trump articulates a message, which may contradict his own experts, how does that impact, the public's ability to understand, and appreciate, how important, proceeding, safely, and in a data - driven way, may be?
3. True/ truth/ trust; timely, time - tested: This President, according to political fact - checkers, has bent the truth, at a startling pace! Why should we trust, what he says, when he, so often, changes his narrative? We have witnessed, the apparent ramifications, of refusing to act, during this pandemic, in a well - considered, timely manner, as well as the potential dangers of, prioritizing one's gut, rather than using, time - tested, data - driven, approaches/ actions!
4. Assets; assistance: Shouldn't life, and the public's health, and well - being, be, considered the most important assets, and, never equated, with economic needs? Isn't it, somewhat, hypocritical, to proclaim, this economic - based message, while stating, the refusal, to directly help, those, in the greatest financial peril?
Wake up, America, and demand better, and more attention, paid to what the data and science indicates, rather than anyone's personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self - interest! We need leaders, who put those, they were elected to serve, and represent, first, regardless of politics, or partisan considerations! This isn't normal!
